What is the best way to clean carpets without hiring a professional?

My carpet is not hideous, but it has looked better. There is one juice stain from the kids (which is hidden by a rug right now) and it’s overall a little dirtied up. I tried some cleaners for the bad spots, but they really didn’t do anything other then lighten the carpet a little – which also made a visible spot from where I didn’t clean. I am thinking I will need to steam clean just so it doesn’t look patchy. Any thoughts?

Your house sounds a lot like mine. I have found that the best way to keep the carpets clean is with Genesis 950. The first reason I say this is because you have said you tried other cleaners that did not really work. Genesis 950 will work. It is completely different then other cleaners. It works with water to break down the stains by absorbing into them and then weakening them. Once they have been treated with Genesis 950 they will break apart and lift from the carpet.

On top of that, it also deodorizes and kills any germs and bacteria so that it is doing more then just cleaning. If you have pets this is really helpful as you know your carpets are more then just visually clean. It is also a "green" cleaner, so it is safe without any hash chemicals or toxins.

If you do decide to steam clean, definitely use the 950 in a cleaner. It makes your carpets look like new. I have had professional cleaners come in. I feel like they are just getting the carpet and wet, and not really doing anything. The 950 really cleans – a deep down amazing clean.

It’s cheap too – super cheap. You can get a quart for $14.50. It’s a concentrate, so when you actually dilute it the proper way you end up getting 9 quarts in one bottle – which breaks down to you really spending like $1.61 per quart.

Best cleaning product out there and it is the beat way to clean carpets without hiring a professional.

Rent the steam cleaner and do it yourself I find that works for me

You can actually rent professional machines from lowes or home depot. The best over all extraction liquid I’ve found is called ‘power point.’ The rental and a gallon of chemical will run you about $85. And you’ll need some ‘red magic’ if the juice stain is red. I live in North Carolina and around here you can find a small local company to clean two rooms for under $75. Also the cheaper machines such as Bissel and Rug Doctor work just fine too. Not as good, but they work.

hiring a professional isnt that much more than renting a machine..then when you factor in, going to get the machine returning it and doing all the work yourself..its cheaper to hire someone

Rinse the stained area with cold water to get rid of the sugar. Use a light colored cloth and dab it. Never scrub it. If it doesn’t work, use a steam cleaner.

There are 3 ways to clean your carpet. Each has positives and negatives.
1 What people call steam cleaning is really extraction cleaning. The machine is called an extractor. It’s best for getting out the deep dirt, but when your finished it will take 24 hours to dry. You also need to spray a neutralizer on the carpet after extracting or the carpet will re spot quickly.
2 you can surface clean the carpet with a regular rotary floor machine and a carpet bonnet, both of which you can get at any equipment rental place. If (and that’s a big if) you know how to operate a floor machine, it’s usually the quickest and cheapest.
3 It’s pretty expensive but there is a product called "Host Carpet Cleaner". It’s ground up corn cobs infused with a dry cleaning chemical. You rub it into the carpet with a brush or special machine that they rent and vacuum up the powder along with the dirt. It works, but like I said it’s expensive.

I would purchase a steam cleaner to have in your home to keep up on the cleaning of your carpet. If the kids spill something you can spot clean it right away and the stains won’t set in the carpet. Walmart sells them starting at $99.

Ever heard of professional carpet cleaners? Protect your expensive investment in carpeting and allow some one, who knows what they are doing, clean it for you. Make sure they are certified, insured, and use hot water. Go to http://www.iicrc.org to locate a pro near you, at least get an estimate.
