Hello,

I am looking for best vacuum cleaner. I have both carpet & hardwood floors in my home. Also a month old baby. Which ones are the best in terms of efficiency and low maintenance. whether it be the central vac, or the standard ? my budget is flexible as I know you get what you pay for.

Thanks for your time.
Also advise me whether Central Vacuum is better or the hand vacuum. Thanks

What is the best way to clean a shower that gets dirty from dirty feet?

We live in the desert and it has just proven impossible to keep the house – floors/carpet clean. I vacuum every day and mop about 2x a week, but my main problem is keeping the main shower floor clean. Because our feet are so dirty, the shower floor gets dirty real fast. Has anyone found a cleaner that helps you clean the shower less than everyday??? What have proven to be the best shower cleaners – not for soap scum & hard water, but for whitening the tub???? I have tried that scrubbing bubbles daily shower cleaner and didn’t care for that. Also, I have used an OXY bathroom cleaner that works when I use it, just doesn’t seem to protect from dirt. I currently spray that and let it sit, then scrub with AJAX. This only keeps it clean about a day or two, though. With a 1 and 2 year old, I can’t spend this much time cleaning!!!!

tenant vs.apartment landlord regarding charges on our 'move-out' bill?

I’m warning this may be somewhat of a long question but here goes!
My bf and I moved into an apt. march 2010 and signed a 9 month lease. We went to the office end of nov and explained having both been recently laid off we were unable to come up with our last months (dec.) payment of 0 and that we’re probably now forced to break our lease. The staff member replied "I’d hate for you to break your lease and lose out on getting any money back as you’ll have to pay an extra 00 just to GET OUT of the lease so come up with half by…(i forget which day exactly, but in the 2nd week of dec. sometime) then go ahead and pay the other half when you recieve your deposit(s) back in Jan, but you’ll be charged a late fee."….Fine, if we can’t stay due to shortage of money in the first place, why back out early and put ourselves in an even bigger hole we figured. We borrowed the money and paid the 1st half by the new due date. Now, as of the middle of nov., we had been staying at my boyfriends moms’ to help her out with things AND beginning of nov. our cable/internet was shut off…(again, unable to pay) as well as sometime during the END of nov. our electricity was also shut off (we were full-time at his moms so we aren’t for sure when this happened). I just wanted to give you a little background of the whole situation, now for the mess we’re in….
When we were in the office that day explaining the dec. rent situation, we got on the subject of cleaning/move-out duties we were to do before handing in the keys. She explained all that was needed was "BASIC, EVERYDAY TYPE CLEANING…. dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, wipe down counters/blinds/windows/mirrors." I didn’t know at this point in time that we had no electricity so when she said to vacuum I didn’t think twice about it so we do everything listed above, minus the vacuuming. Later explaining to her that due to no electricity, it would cost us something to turn on service again. We didn’t have that extra $$ to give PG&E just so we can vacuum our 538 sq ft. apartment for less than 10 minutes then shut the service off again?! That would be like throwing money down the drain. She said she understood and to pick up the carpet by hand and to sweep it the best we could.
I have a small (6 lb) dog who NEVER would pee inside and does not shed, but common courtesy I asked if we needed to shampoo the carpets (again, before we knew about the electricity being off) she replied "No, we do that after each tenant anyway, DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT"…We had shampooed our carpet THREE TIMES in the 7 months we lived there so I assured her they had been well cared for anyway.
While moving in/out, our big furniture was no match for the narrow hallway and doors so we ended up with a few…(less than say 5-6) ‘scuff marks’ on the wall. Not big, dark, 3 inch marks but I’m talking damn near not even visible unless you really look for them. I asked what we do about them and she replies ‘If they are on all the walls and really bad, you can bring a container into the office and I’ll have maintenance give you some touch up paint, otherwise if not, DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT, we’re used to scuff marks from moving in/out."….We do our cleaning and turn in keys. She says within 20 days to expect a check for deposit(s) (0 for apt and 0 for my dog). 21 days later, we get a certified letter, no check. Instead a BILL saying not only are we not getting anything back, we OWE THEM another 0 to be paid in 10 days. WHAT?!
We are being billed for ‘professional cleaners (6 hrs @ /hr), painters (5 hrs @ /hr PLUS 2 GALLONS of paint ) and a carpet guy to come in and put brand new carpet in @ 5 because they supposedly had done a ‘UV Light Radiation Scan’ and came up with a pet urine stain that soaked all the way through the carpet and PAD leaving the carpet destroyed’….We were not contacted regarding any of this, I would’ve gone back paid PG&E, vacuumed, shampooed and touched up the marks my damn self! We were never told anything about a cleaning service, painters etc coming in once we had moved out to fix the place if need be, let alone were we warned that WE would have to pay for these things!! I have since found out our carpet was almost 3 years old (they charged us based on the supposed life the carpet had left…55 months at /mo.) and 3 years for apartment carpet seems maybe not old, but not new either. Who KNOWS how many people have lived there w/pets etc. And 5 hours of painting for scuff marks? Really? How do we dispute this? No pics were taken before or after on our part (STUPID i know now) so I’m afraid it will be our word vs. theres. We’ve already begun a letter to property management, but this whole thing is still such a mess. Funny thing is, my step-sister just moved into our apt so I’ve checked, it’s not like they painted th

What's the best way to clean pet stains from carpet?

We have a Bissell Quicksteamer with the Pet Stain & Odor formula. We also have a bottle of Fresh ‘n Clean Oxy-Strength with Arm & Hammer deodorizers that I use to clean the stains that do not need to be cleaned with the carpet cleaner.

The stains that do need the Bissell don’t come out completely.
What’s the best way/method to get these out? Should I pre-treat with the spray?

We plan to get that spot-cleaner, I don’t know the name off the top of my head, but it’s the small machine you just sit on the stains and leave it to clean them. We just can’t afford it right now so, we need some tips to last until then.

Any cleaners, or sprays that you recommend?

Since our old male cat died a month ago one of our female cats will not use the litter box.?

We had to put a litter box indoors(2 yrs) for the older cat-he was unable to get around very well and still frequently did not use or missed the box. We removed the box after a few days. We have always had a box in the garage -access with a kitty door from kitchen. She seems to only eliminate (pee & poop)inapppropriately at night as far as we can tell. Until last night it was where the older cat use to go. Last night she peed at the foot of our bed on the carpet. Is it because the older cat died, we moved the litter box, stress? Is she now lazy or dislikes the dark garage? (We have always cleaned up messes asap, using cleaners designed for pet accidents, have had our carpets steam cleaned on fairly reg. basis, shampooed them ourselves, etc. I am very paranoid about pet odors!) She has NEVER done this before and we cannot seem to break her habit. HELP!!!

What are the best household cleaners you know of?

So I’m tired of messing around with sub-par household cleaners, I’d like to know if there are any absolutely fantastic ones out there. Ones that just blow all the others away. I’d be interested in hearing suggestions on ones from all different categories, such as……

Cleaning baths
floors
carpets
tile grout
plastic
dishes
rust stains
metal fixtures
concrete
greasy hands
cars & rims
vinyl siding
windows
etc.

My favorite types are super industrial strength ones that you can just spray on and wash off.

So if you know of any fantastic cleaners that really stand out from the rest, I would love to know about them.

My dog is breaking out in hives! Pictures included! HELP!!!!!?

Please help, tonight is the second night my dog has broke out in crazy amount of hives all over her body, it happened between 12am-1am, lasting about an hour, and it doesn’t happen during the day. I originally thought it was her food so i changed it to a different brand this morning. I super cleaned her food and water bowls, giving her fresh water. She went all day without breaking out with these bumps. I have NO idea what so ever what this could be. We have changed absolutely nothing in our home. No new detergents for our laundry, carpet, no new cleaners, solvents, cologne, perfume, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, nothing has changed, no new foods in our home etc. I have a cat that i have had since my dog was a puppy, the cats fine and the dog has never had any problems like this before.

here are the pictures of the "hives"

like i earlier posted, she it just happens all at once and lasts about an hour. i did make a vet appointment today, but they say they cant even fit her in until friday
absolutely nothing has changed in my household, i have gone over it many many times and cant think of one thing that has been done different…
so i got my dog into the vet today, and didnt have to wait until friday, he gave her an allergy shot, and i have to taker her back in a week for a booster shot. he said not to be alarmed if she breaks out one or two more times, and if she does give her 18mg of benadryl, the kind with diphenhydramine hci, NOT loratadine
